Do You Like Animals? IELTS Speaking (20 Example Answers

When taking one of your IELTS Speaking test, your examiner will ask, “Do you like animals?” he may ask.

It’s a pretty simple question to answer.

Read on for tips on how to prepare for this question and 20 great sample answers (go straight to the answers here).

If you love animals, you can say you do and then add an extra sentence or two to explain your answer.

An animal or type of animal you really like

If you like wild animals or domesticated animals (pets or farm animals)

An animal documentary you watched

Any pet you would like to have (an ordinary or exotic animal)

Everything you know about the lives and habitats of animals

What you know about endangered animals

Don’t You Like Animals?

If you don’t like animals, you can talk about:

why don’t you love them

Dangerous animals you see at the zoo or on TV

Someone you know who loves animals

Don’t forget the KISS (Keep it Short and Simple) for part one questions.

In part one, focus on responding quickly and fluently without hesitation.

Your answer (say “yes” or “no”)

Explain your answer or add one or two more details (just one or two more sentences)

Stop talking (let the examiner know that you are ready for the next question)

I think they are funny and I would like to visit a farm to see and feed them up close.

‘Type’ Responses

Sometimes I love animals.

I don’t even have a pet.

I think I like some wild animals, like polar bears.

They are huge and dangerous and always alone, hunting in really cold places.

I am not a big fan of animals, although I love dogs because they are very friendly.

I don’t like cats because a cat scratched me when I was very young and it scared me a lot.

I like wild animals but only on TV.

It’s fun to watch how lions and bears live in the wild, but I wouldn’t want to see any of them in real life.

“No, I Don’t” Responses

No, to be honest with you, I don’t like animals at all.

But my kids love learning about animals and going to the zoo.

I just love people.

No, I don’t like animals at all, except for food.

I am a big meat eater and I really love beef, pork, chicken, seafood and any animal food.

No, I hate animals.

I grew up on a farm and had to work with animals all day and I hated it.

Now that I live in the city, I don’t want to be around animals anymore.

You can see how many different types of answers you can answer.

It doesn’t matter what you say as long as you speak fast and don’t make (many) mistakes.

For part one questions, say the first thing that comes to mind and try to speak without hesitation.

Ask yourself, “Do you like animals?” ask.

When you have finished, listen to your recording, write down what you said, and think of one or two ways you could improve the answer.

Keep repeating this process and you’ll soon be ready to give a great seven-band answer to this part one question of your IELTS Speaking test.
